FTC notice
About the one-time $1 charge that verifies parental consent for a minor’s Level Field Combine account.
This notice is a draft prepared for the new site and is awaiting counsel approval.
The $1 parental-consent verification
Activating a minor’s account on Level Field Combine includes a one-time $1 charge to a parent or guardian’s card. Charging a card and notifying the account holder is one of the verifiable parental-consent methods the FTC recognizes under COPPA, and we apply that same standard to confirm a real parent is approving the account. The $1 is non-refundable and is not a subscription.
Why we do this
Level Field Combine is built for youth athletes. Before a college coach can contact a minor — and before a minor’s recruiting profile becomes active — we confirm that a real parent or guardian is approving the account. A small card charge with a notification to the cardholder is a long-recognized way to do that.
How it works
- A parent or guardian creates the Family Account and enters basic information.
- A one-time $1 charge is made to the parent or guardian's card, and the account holder is notified of the charge.
- Once verified, the parent or guardian owns and controls the account and approves their athlete's activity.
Children under 13
COPPA’s strict requirements apply to children under 13. Under-13 athletes do not get their own login; a parent or guardian creates and manages the account on their behalf. Athletes 13–17 get their own login under a parent-owned account.
What the charge is not
- It is not a subscription. There are no recurring charges.
- It is not refundable.
- It is a standalone verification charge — it does not pay for any membership, and founding-class membership is free during the founding-class period.
Where the charge happens
The verification is handled in the Level Field Combine app through a secure payment processor at signup.
